The round table on “Technical aspects and standards of projects” was organized between AzRIP and SFDI engineers at the Project Management Unit office of AzRIP implemented by the State Agency on Agricultural Credits under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Republic in Government House, Baku on September 22, 2008.

The workshop was initiated by SFDI Task Team and attended by engineers and technical controllers of SFDI and AzRIP, as well as the World Bank Consultant and Coordinator in Moldova Alexandru Ursul, SFDI Project Manager Dovlatkhan Dovlatkhanov, AzRIP Deputy Director and Community Development /Capacity Enhancement Manager Gulbaniz Ganbarova, and others.

The Round Table discussion covered the following three topics: 1) technical appraisal objectives and procedures of sub-projects implemented under both projects, b) engineering and technical standards for the community projects, and c) supervision and monitoring mechanisms of the community projects. Representatives of both projects provided comprehensive information covering the topics and continued discussion with questions-answers session.

Similar and distinctive features of both projects regarding the topics in the agenda were deeply analyzed, useful and efficient suggestions were identified during discussions. Discussion on operation and maintenance of completed community projects raised greater interest and even turned to civil arguments sometimes. The parties spoke about the challenges and their solutions, how to ensure long-term use of community projects and operate it according to accepted technical rules.

The workshop was very productive and useful for the exchange of experience, achievements, lessons learned and for future cooperation. It was concluded that both projects have similar objectives and goals, they work in different directions but both have achieved good results.

This informal exchange of experience between two World Bank supported projects was highly appreciated by the speakers and the World Bank representative. It was decided to organize such meetings more frequently, inform each-other about the implemented community projects and various events conducted under SFDI and AzRIP and take active part in these events.
